March “What To Stream”
March is set to be an action-packed month of film, with some major releases coming up that you will not want to miss. From epic showdowns to the return of comedy royalty, our choices for great entertainment are definitely not limited. There’s even something in the mix for the whole family, with Disney’s newest feature. While I know I’m itching to get back into a theater setting, I’m grateful to still have some amazing cinematic experiences at home. See my list for “What to Stream” below!
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Disney+ with Premier Access – March 5
Our newest Disney princess is here—and she’s a warrior! When monsters threaten Kumandra and its people, Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) ventures out to find the only remaining dragon (Awkwafina) to help save her land. Raya and the Last Dragon looks like a classic animated adventure with a fierce princess, one that will surely become a favorite for families. The visually stunning spectacle is also a historical moment, as it features the first Southeast Asian Disney princess; and a predominantly Asian American cast. The film will be simultaneously released in cinemas and on Disney+ for $29.99.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Amazon Prime – March 5
The 1988 film Coming to America quickly became a cult comedy classic with iconic characters by Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. The film followed Prince Akeem (Murphy) and his right hand man Semmi (Hall), as they traded the kingdom of Zamunda for Queens, New York, in order for Prince Akeem to find a woman who truly loved him. Now those characters are back in Coming 2 America, returning to find Prince Akeem’s long lost son and next heir to the throne.
Though sequels of beloved 80s/90s comedies have proved iffy at best, this film will at the least bring back some of Murphy and Hall’s hysterical characters, like the band Sexual Chocolate and the old men at the barbershop. And with the entire original cast back together, including the one and only James Earl Jones, it’ll certainly be a fun time. Ahead of its release on March 5th, make sure to watch the original, available now on Amazon Prime as well, an easy what to stream decision.
Pixie (2020) | On Demand – March 5
When a drug heist goes awry, two friends find themselves on the run with an alluring woman at its center. Starring Olivia Cooke, Ben Hardy, Daryl McCormick and Alec Baldwin, Pixie is a fun British comedy-thriller, with charismatic performances and a wild plot. It can get a bit convoluted at times, but its style and plot shifts certainly keep you intrigued enough to forgive that. And honestly, seeing Baldwin as a drug-smuggling priest was quite the unexpected icing on the cake.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) HBO Max – March 18
Perhaps the most anticipated film of all time, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will finally see the light on HBO Max. If you’re unfamiliar with the story behind 2017’s Justice League, it was to be written and directed by Zack Snyder, and for the most part, it was. However, Snyder departed the project near its completion due to a family tragedy. After Joss Whedon was brought in to finish production, the film was rewritten and reshot to create what has now been panned by fans and critics alike. After years of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, Snyder was able to return and create the piece he had envisioned.
With a runtime of four hours, Snyder will surely correct some of the injustices *pun intended* done to the original film, impacting the future of the DC Extended Universe. Now considered one of the most expensive films ever to be made, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a can’t-miss film event.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
HBO Max – March 26
Another highly anticipated film, also dropping on HBO Max, is the long awaited showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong. The film is a direct follow-up to 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, in a shared universe that has been building since 2015. The iconic titans will battle it out for the first time since the 1960s and will undoubtedly be an epic experience. Between this and the aforementioned superhero flick, you’ll definitely want to make sure you have a nice home theater setup, if you’re unable to venture safely to theaters.
